Complete heating system upgrade — detached home in Rotherham
An ageing gas boiler was costing a fortune to run and breaking down regularly. We designed and installed a fully optimised air
The customer had a 14-year-old gas boiler that was breaking down two or three times a winter. Running costs had climbed year on year, and despite the boiler working hard, the back bedrooms never really got warm.
They’d had a couple of quotes for a like-for-like boiler swap, but wanted to know whether there was a longer-term option that would actually bring the bills down rather than just keeping things ticking over.
Craig carried out a full heat loss survey on the property, room by room, rather than sizing off a rule of thumb. That showed the existing radiators were undersized for low temperature operation, which is the most common reason heat pumps underperform.
We designed the system around a Vaillant aroTHERM air source heat pump, upgraded the radiators throughout to low temperature emitters, and fitted a new cylinder and controls. The whole system was commissioned and optimised using Heat Geek methodology, so the flow temperature runs as low as the property allows.
The install was completed over three days, with the customer kept in heating and hot water throughout.
The result
Running costs came down by around 40% compared to the old gas system. More importantly for the customer, the whole house is now evenly heated — including the back bedrooms that never used to warm up.
The system has run without a single callout since installation, and the customer has since recommended us to two neighbours.
