From our Sheffield base, we help homeowners, landlords and businesses across South Yorkshire with air source heat pump installation, servicing and repairs.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government grant providing £7,500 towards the cost of an air source or ground source heat pump. It’s available to owner-occupiers and landlords in England and Wales replacing a fossil fuel heating system. As an MCS-certified installer, we apply for the grant on your behalf and deduct it directly from your installation price — you never have to claim it yourself.
Not always. Heat pumps run at lower flow temperatures than gas boilers (typically 45–55°C vs 70–80°C), which means larger radiators may be needed in some rooms. Modern homes built after the 2000s often don’t need any radiator changes. Older homes sometimes need a few upgrades in the larger rooms. We assess this as part of the heat loss calculation and include any required radiator upgrades in your quote.
Modern air source heat pumps are much quieter than older models — typically around 40–50dB at 1 metre, similar to a quiet conversation or a refrigerator. Most homeowners find them completely unnoticeable after a few days. We position the outdoor unit carefully to minimise any impact on you or your neighbours, and can advise on planning permission requirements if needed.
It depends on what you’re replacing and how well insulated your home is. A well-sized heat pump in a well-insulated home replacing an old oil or LPG boiler can save several hundred pounds a year. Replacing a modern efficient gas boiler, savings are typically smaller in the short term — but electricity prices are expected to fall relative to gas over the coming years, improving the economics further. We’ll give you an honest estimate during your survey.
